knows 2010 will be a great year! |
Nine years serving Chico area dogs!
January 2010 marks the beginning of our 9th year of service to Chico dogs and their people. We are so excited about the programs and events that are planned for this coming year. Besides our outstanding line-up of training classes and dog day care, we’ll be having art shows, events, exhibitions, and seminars. Our mission – our sole purpose for being here – is to help create loving, lively, and lifelong relationships between dogs and their people and to cultivate a community of dog-loving friends. Come visit us and share in our 2010 celebration of all things dog!

Bean Davis, Featured Fido – July 2010 |
BUBBA is our Featured Fido for June 2010.
Bubba’s mom, Mary Beadle, is a dedicated dog lover who shares her home with five (count em, five!) gorgeous German Shepherd Dogs. Among his peers, Bubba stands out as quite the star. He is a graduate of Obedience Basics, Freestyle I, Agility I, and recently became a registered Delta Society therapy dog. Bubba is not only handsome, but he is smart and loveable too. Mary drives all the way from Red Bluff with Bubba and her other dogs to participate in our programs at the Canine Connection. Thank you, Mary, Bubba, and brothers Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid, for being part of our Canine Connection family.

Bean’s sister, Cocoa. You go, girl! |
BEAN is our Featured Fido for July 2010.
Bean is a tennis ball finder and catcher extraordinaire. But that’s not all – he jumps for joy with agility, is an amazing big brother to his sister, Cocoa, and is a super subject for his Mom’s magnificent photo artistry. When Bean first came to the Canine Connection several years ago he was a timid little pup. Now, after Puppy Kindergarten, Intermediate Obedience, Agility I, II, and III, and a lifestyle that keeps him active and social, Bean walks through a room as if he owns the place. To know Bean is to love Bean. And to know his mom, Darcy Davis, is to know a dog lover with a huge heart and sense of humor. Bean, Cocoa, and their parents, keep us smiling here at the Canine Connection!

Rhodie, by Jean Summerville

Rhodie’s BOW WOW Birthday was a Blast!
Over 200 people and a great many dogs came to celebrate Rhodie’s birthday with us. It was such a good time! Human children enjoyed a dog art workshop, led by special guest, Jean Summerville, dogs played and munched on treats, and we all laughed and howled our way through contests and demos that brought out our puppy spirit.
Click here to see photos of this event, and watch for news of next year’s Bow Wow Bash. It’s sure to become an annual event.

Auggie Simcox helps out at Art Etc. in downtown Chico.
|
Help for NorCal Aussie Rescue, with thanks to Art, Etc.!
If you have been to Chico’s happening art center, Art Etc., you’ve met Auggie the Aussie. Owner (of store and dog), Anna Simcox, donated a $100 gift certificate to raffle off at Rhodie’s Bow Wow Birthday bash. The raffle raised $100 and the Canine Connection has matched it. So, to honor Auggie, Rhodie, and all the other Aussies of the world we have made a $200 donation to NorCal Aussie Rescue to help other Aussies in need. Click here to read more about this wonderful rescue group and to help this amazing breed. And, read more about our other recent contributions here.

Billie and her Puppy Kindergarten pals now get an extra week of class! Our Obedience Basics students do too! |
|
Extra Week Added to Intro Classes!
Recently, we have experimented with several different class formats to find out what works best for you and your dogs. In the end, we are going back to the 7-week class format we know and love – and you have told us you love it too. Beginning in April 2010, Puppy Kindergarten classes and Obedience Basics will have an extra session – but the price, and all the other things that work so well (orientation seminar, private equipment appointment, included equipment, and so much more) will stay the same. Truth be known, we have often ended up adding the extra week back in anyhow, so now we’re making it official. Those who went through these classes with the 6-week format will be invited to training tune-ups at no extra charge so you too can have an extra session, on us. Stay tuned…more information about these training tune-ups will be posted soon.

Amanda, class and event assistant at the Canine Connection, presents Rhodie's birthday cake at the Bow Wow Birthday Bash. |
Amanda Says Goodbye, Kevin Says Hello
Those who have taken classes with us this past year may have come to know Amanda Rollandelli, our always-smiling, ever-creative class and event assistant. Amanda has just finished her course work at Chico State in special events planning and she is heading back to the bay area to complete her internship. We will miss her SO MUCH!
Kevin Swanberg, also a Chico State student, will be joining us to help out with classes and day care. Kevin recently designed and implemented a wonderful animal-assisted therapy program at the Canine Connection and he’s interested in developing a career in dog training and behavior We’re thrilled to have him on the team!
